تكريم تاريخنا من خلال عمال المناجم
كان عام 1948 علامة فارقة في تاريخ الحركة العمالية في قبرص. كان هذا العام من أكبر وأطول الضربات في بلدنا. استمرت الإضرابات 266 يومًا بمشاركة 4300 عامل من عمال المناجم وعمال البناء وبدعم وتضامن الطبقة العاملة بأكملها. ووقف العمال القبارصة اليونانيون والقبارصة الأتراك يداً بيد ونظموا كفاحهم ضد الحكومة الاستعمارية البريطانية وأصحاب العمل المحليين والأجانب.
لم يكن لدى عمال المناجم أصحاب عمل فقط ضدهم. كان لديهم أيضا مناهضة للشيوعية لم يكن هدفها السماح لأي شخص بالرد. “ينفق بلدي ملايين الدولارات لمحاربة الشيوعية في جميع أنحاء العالم. لن يخطر ببالي إنفاق بعض الآلاف من الجنيهات لنفس الغرض في قبرص ، كما كان المدير العام للشركة ، السيد هندريكس يقول. من الأفضل أن يكون لديك 12 ساعة زرقاء بدلاً من 8 ساعات حمراء “، كما اعتاد أعضاء الحزب اليميني والمضادون على القول.
عقد متحف العمل التاريخي لمنظمة PEO ، ومجلس إدارة نيقوسيا-كيرينيا PEO ، لجنة مقاطعة نيقوسيا-كيرينيا AKEL حتى في 1 يونيو لتكريم الذكرى 70 لمعارك ملحمية من عمال المناجم في عام 1948.
احتوى الحدث على محتوى ثقافي وشمل معرضًا يحتوي على صور وعناصر من عمال المناجم.

Honoring our History through the miners
1948 it was the landmark in the history of the labor movement in Cyprus. It was the year of the biggest and longest strikes in our country. The strikes lasted 266 days with the participation of 4,300 miners and construction workers and with the support and solidarity of the entire working class. Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots workers stood hand in hand and organized their struggle against the British colonial government, local and foreign employers.
The miners did not have only employers against them. They also had anti-communism whose purpose was not to allow to anyone to react. “My country spends millions of dollars to fight communism all over the world. It won’t mind spending some thousands of pounds for the same purpose in Cyprus”, as the director-general of the Company, Mr. Hendrix used to state. It’s better to have 12 blue hours instead of 8 red ones”, as the members of the right party and the anti-strikers used to state.
The Historical Labour Museum of PEO, the Department Council of Nicosia-Kyrenia PEO, the District Committee of Nicosia-Kyrenia AKEL held an even on 1st June to honor the 70-year anniversary of the epic fights of the Miners in 1948.
The event had cultural content and included an exhibition with photos and objects of the Miners.
There followed a speeches by AKEL S.G. Andros Kyprianou and PEO S.G. Pambis Kyritsis. The event was completed by awarding the veteran miners.
